Trust grantee Project Avary featured in recent episode of Ear Hustle
Podcast features the stories of an often-overlooked youth population
Ear Hustle, which was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in audio reporting in 2020, is a podcast created and produced in prison, and focuses on stories about life inside California’s San Quentin State Prison. A recent episode featured Trust grantee Project Avary, which provides long-term support for young people whose parents are, or have been, incarcerated. Project Avary’s support includes mentoring and skill-building opportunities within a supportive community to help youth heal from trauma and develop resiliency. This Ear Hustle episode tells the stories of Project Avary youth, told in their own voices. Youth describe how their parents’ incarceration affects their lives, their relationships, and their perception of their own possibilities, as well as the healing power of a supportive community.
